Confessions,  Do I Really Want My Readers To Know This?,  Food,  Fun in Knoxville,  I've Got Mad Skillz

The Thrill is in the Hunt.

I used to throw themed parties all the time. My boys were raised with big birthday parties that had tons of elements that coordinated with whatever show, movie, or thing they were into that year. The ability to take a theme and run with it, usually far further than the average person would care to and what I mean by that is “until said theme is nearly dead and gasping for breath but in a good way,” is something I come by honestly: my sister and I both get it from our mom. While I have contributed ideas for themed parties in the past few years when my friends have…

    So Funny.

My very favorite television genre is and always has been the sitcom. It’s not the “wrap up a weekly situation with humor in just 22 minutes” big picture aspect that I like; it’s literally the humor and only the humor. I like to laugh. The 80s (when there were far fewer television choices, by the way), were the Golden Age of Sitcoms. Sadly, they don’t make ‘em like they used to and they don’t make nearly as many of ‘em as they used to. I still seek them out, though. A few months ago Jim and I were scouring Netflix for something new to watch, something more funny and less…

    The Amazing Race is Amazing.

A couple of weeks ago I was searching for something to watch on Hulu (we do Netflix for movies and originals and Hulu for beloved TV show replays over here) and was overjoyed to discover that alllll of the episodes in seasons one through twenty-seven of The Amazing Race are available to stream. We LOVE The Amazing Race in this house. Before the boys went to college it was how we four spent Sunday nights together. At the beginning of every season we pause the show after the teams are introduced and we each pick two that we think might win. Of course, after an episode or two some of…

Martha & Snoop Are Giving Me Life Right Now

Television offerings right now are amazingly varied. From what you can get on the various streaming services to the massive range of shows on cable/satellite, there’s something for everyone even if you’re one of those people who flips the channel while whining about how there’s NOTHING ON the 150 channels to which you have access. One show that is keeping me in stitches is “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party” on VH1. On the show, Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg first make a themed cocktail together and then they each prepare a dish (sometimes it’s a variation on the same dish and sometimes their dishes aren’t the same at all)…

I am a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam and will be happily sharing monthly tips and stories about how my family uses Netflix on a regular basis. (Okay, that’s an understatement. If you have not or are not watching Netflix’s “The Get Down”, you need to remedy that now. As in, right now. I know it’s weird for me to start off a post like that before even telling you about this phenomenal series, but perhaps because I did that you’ll get a sense of my love for it. Now that…

For the first several months, we lived in a couple of rooms at the hotel my dad managed. That was when our family started our Sunday Movie tradition. Getting dad off the property where he lived AND worked was great for his morale, and we got…

    A Streaming Wish List

Today has been an Adam Sandler kind of a day. We watched “Don’t Mess With the Zohan” (a family fave) and then “Grown Ups”. I decided to search for MTV’s “Remote Control” so we could show D how Adam Sandler got started, and I was thrilled to find full episodes on YouTube. The one we watched didn’t have Adam Sandler in it (of course not because MY LUCK), but it DID have the original commercials that aired in 1989 so we got a good laugh about that. It got me thinking about three shows from back in the day that I would love to see on Netflix or Hulu at…

This post is sponsored by Netflix, of course!Everyone’s headed back to school so I figured this would be a GREAT time to talk about summer camp, amirite???
