Everyone’s A Cougar At This Place

I love baseball. I’m not a “glued to the tube” type of fan, mind you…I prefer to see the game in person. To me, watching a baseball game on tv takes most of the fun out of it; it’s like watching paint dry. (Unless of course, it’s the Chicago Cubs in the playoffs. Then, I’m totally watching from my couch with no complaints!) Being there in person means you get to enjoy all of the music they play, you get to do the “wave”, you get to do the 7th inning stretch, eat all of the junk food that is sold there, you might possibly catch a ball, and so…

    In Mourning (sort of)

We made a gruesome discovery while at the mall today. Our Dippin Dots mall kiosk has closed down! It’s empty! Deserted! Gone! Gone! Goooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnne!!!! It’s a sad day for the sixteen-year-old. Dippin’ Dots and this teen go together like peanut butter and jelly. From the very first taste, he was hooked. Every time we go to the mall, he asks if we can buy them. Most of the time I tell him “no”, because they are pretty expensive compared to other mall treats (in my opinion). However, we go to the mall very, very rarely (maybe three or four times a year? no joke.) so I usually end up changing…

Read This & Consider Yourself Schooled on Shopping

We just returned home from school shopping. It was mostly a pleasant experience, with the exception of one heart-breaker for the sixteen-year-old, which I will post about in a few minutes. I want to share with you what I learned (or was reminded of) today. 1. I am soooooo happy that, two years ago, I went totally overboard on school supplies when they were on clearance in September, because with the exception of one unexpected (for this year) purchase, I only spent $30 to complete the supply lists. (Technically the older boy doesn’t have a list yet–he’s a junior this year and we get the supply lists from each teacher…

    It’s All About The Pits

Speaking of armpits, I have been thoroughly annoyed and cheesed out by the new commercial for Secret deodorant. You know the one, where the young woman giggles and puts her hands in the air to show how her deodorant is working. She walks along in the city, stops in front of the police car, raises her hands, and yells, “I’m innocent! Hee hee hee hee!” So annoying. (But it’s a memorable commercial, and I do indeed know WHAT the advertised product is…so maybe it’s a good ad afterall?) I’m so annoyed by it that I’ve been keeping an eye out for it on Youtube so I could post it, but…

Today’s Soup: Mish Mash (and it’s piping hot)

I am horrified that I haven’t updated this blog since Sunday. I am also surprised that I haven’t been worried about it all week. But still horrified. Teaching 7-8 assorted group fitness classes each week + riding my bike 25-40 miles per week on top of that is both extremely time consuming as well as physically and mentally exhausting. I have at least 6 more weeks of the class situation. I’m a hundred times more tired than I am now, just thinking about it. I’m getting sick of my music. I need to make some new spinning playlists. But I do like the increase in my paycheck. Although I know…

What’s The Point of Having Kids If You Can’t Torment Them Now And Then?

I must be stopped. I have these urges…uncontrollable urges. One minute I’m fine, and then the next minute…well, it’s sort of like I’m some kind of junkie. A Tickle Junkie. It started years ago, and probably stems from when I was a little girl, having a Dad who loved (okay, still does) being a Tormenter. “What’s this?” he would say, tapping the front of my shirt. “I don’t know, what is it?” I would say, looking down to check it out. “BOOP!” he would exclaim, as he flicked my nose with his finger. “Gotcha!” I fell for it (okay, still do) almost every time. It was–IS–so annoying to fall for…

    A Dinner of Olympic Proportions

I am a diehard Olympic fan. I love the drama. I love the stories about the athletes, and I love the fanfare. I was overjoyed when, years ago, it was decided that they would make an adjustment so that we only had to wait two years between Winter and Summer Olympics, instead of waiting four years and having them both in the same year like the olden days. (1992 was the last year in which both Summer and Winter Olympics were held the same year.) In the Winter Olympics, my all-time favorite athletes were Grinkov and Gordeeva (I read her book “My Sergei”: WHAT a love story!), and I rooted…

I Understand the Lighting Concept Behind Cosmic Bowling, But The Shoes Are Ridiculous.

Just a quickie today; we have a big afternoon planned. Sort of. Although the boys went away for a week on a Sea Kayaking Trip in Georgia in June and then went to Boy Scout Camp for a week in July, we haven’t done much around here this summer: quite out of character for us. Yesterday we decided to go bowling, and it was really fun, though none of us broke 100 in any of the 3 games we played. (Oh well!) For your enjoyment, here is my sixteen-year-old dressed in his tuxedo t-shirt, blue gym shorts, and those ugly fluorescent Cosmic Bowling shoes. I couldn’t resist a photo: The…

Stop Twittering My Facebook, You Plurk!

First, watch this. (But not at work or around curious children.) It’ll open up a new window. Ready? Okay. I can’t seem to make up my mind about technology. I love discovering the joys of using new things, in due time. I’m not even just talking about microwave ovens, VCRs, Cuisinarts, computers, DVD players, or Nintendo, none of which were widely available (or in some cases, even invented) when I was a little girl but in the past thirty years have become mainstream. Whenever something new comes out, I love the idea of it. Normally (as an adult with a household budget to consider), I resist the cost of these…

As If You Didn’t Have Enough To Do Today.

I never know if you people ever look at my Blogroll, but I do feel responsible for letting you know when I update it. As my list has grown, I have found it more and more difficult to get to all of these blogs on a daily basis, but I am still a regular visitor, don’t you worry! Here’s some 4-1-1 on my latest additions: OMG! (Oh My Goff!) is written by Angie Goff, who is the traffic anchor for WUSA-9 in Washington D.C., as well as a frequent Scrawl commenter and more recently, a gentle sort of Dream Invader. Angie cracks me up and Twitters constantly. She is a…
