Get In The Game…And Win!

Over the past few years, there has been lots of talk about making cuts in programs which, in my opinion, are very, very important for growing kids: sports and music. Due to institutional budget cuts as well as the state of the economy itself, which causes families to have to make some of the same budget cuts in order to keep food on the table, organizations are looking for more help than ever to ensure survival.

Our lacrosse club is an expensive venture for anyone who wants to be a part of it, and I’m not just talking about the equipment. (Have you SEEN the prices on lacrosse equipment? Sheesh!) Because lacrosse is not a school-sanctioned sport in our area, the families have to pay higher premiums: we’re paying the coaches, renting the fields and buses (to away games), and restocking team-shared equipment (goalie nets, balls). One of the ways we can keep our registration fees from increasing by crazy percentages each year is to fundraise.

I can’t stand fundraising.

This year, though, it will be a little bit easier, thanks to Adirondack Fleece, who sent me seventeen awesome fleece blankets with our club logo on them, two to keep and fifteen to use to help raise funds for the club.

Adirondack Fleece has a great way to help lots of clubs/teams/organizations raise funds; their “Get in the Game” program gives away two dozen fleece blankets (custom-embroidered with a logo!) to a nominated youth sports organization each and every month, to use however they please. That’s a $360 value! Who nominates the organizations, you ask? Well, YOU DO! More on that in a minute…

Besides the fact that these are just great blankets, if you know anything about sitting on the sidelines, watching a lacrosse game in the Chicago area starting in early April, you know that we spectators need blankets. NEED. The weather is still iffy at that point in the year, and, well, I am always freezing! So I’m really looking forward to using the blankets, and I know that the people who purchase the extra ones will love them, too. Also? The blankets come with one of those handy-dandy clippy things that keep them rolled when you’re not using them.

I bet you’re sitting there thinking, “Wow, that’s so cool: I wish *I* could get a bunch of those blankets to help *my* sports club/team/organization!”

Guess what? You can, and if you’re lucky, you might be able to get the blankets for FREE! I’ve got a couple ways for you to make yourself eligible.

First, you can leave me a comment–with your e-mail address–telling me about a youth sports team/club/organization that is important to you, one which you think could benefit from getting these blankets. Note that it must be a YOUTH SPORTS organization.

Second, you can tweet about this post, and leave a comment–with your e-mail address–with the url of your tweet.

Third, and most importantly, you can do this, which will give you THREE ENTRIES: go to Adirondack Fleece’s “Get in the Game” page. Remember how, every month, they give away two dozen blankets to a youth sports club/team/organization? If you fill out the nomination form over there and let them know (in the drop-down menu) that you heard about the contest here at Suburban Scrawl, you will not only be entered in their monthly contest but, like I mentioned, you’ll get three extra entries in my giveaway, here. Also, when you make a nomination, they’ll do a blog post about your youth club/team/organization, to give it some extra attention! Check out the Official Rules for the “Get in the Game” program, here.

(By the way, please note that if you have won a previous Adirondack Fleece contest, including the contests at Mocha Dad and This Full House, you are not eligible for this one.)

You have until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23 to enter. Any comments that don’t follow the guidelines will be deleted before I use random.org to select the winner.

Good luck, and let’s stay warm out there!

Disclosure: As I mentioned above, I was given seventeen fleece blankets (two to keep, fifteen to give to my lacrosse club) in exchange for writing this post and promoting “Get in the Game” in my own words.

I would love to win these for my son's AYSO soccer league. They saw a large drop in registration this year because of the economy, I'd love to have these to use somehow to help get things back on track

This would be so much fun for our local soccer league. It's all sorts of kids and parents are outside in ALL weather. Wish me luck 🙂

Yippee! The Chatham Lightfoots Jump Rope team would love to have blankets with their logo! Plus, the bleachers wouldn't be so hard if I were sitting on a comfy blankie.
