I was at work yesterday when my boss was having a conversation with a client about the client’s beagle.

“Melisa has a beagle,” my boss told her.

“You do?” asked the client. “Is your dog stubborn?”

“Oh my goodness. Don’t get me started,” I replied, before, well, getting started.

After we exchanged a few “my beagle is a troublemaker” stories, my boss asked, “How old is Roxie again?”

That’s when it hit me. Her birthday had been on Wednesday, and it totally slipped my mind.

“She turned seven yesterday! Oh my gosh. I’ve never missed a birthday!” I spent the next forty-five minutes before leaving for home feeling guilty for not at least wishing her–yes, my DOG–a happy birthday. I actually spoke these words, out loud:

“I think I’ll go home and act like today is her birthday. I mean, she won’t know.”

(Oh yes, I did.)

When my shift was over, I went home and wished Roxie a very happy seventh birthday, giving her a couple of extra dog treats.

I’m pretty sure she wasn’t fooled.

Happier times, when her birthday was something I remembered.

Oh shame on you! Isn't it marked on the calendar? Happy Belated Birthday Roxie and now I might even remember it every year as it's on the same day as my loser ex husband's. Oh did I just type that out loud?

Actually, she texted me how pissed she was. I talked her off the couch and out of ripping through your garbage. You're welcome!

HAHAHHAHAHAHAH LIZ. hahahahahahhahaha. Don't feel bad Melisa, we forgot Darby's this year too and she was turning 3! Tink's is in 5 days! She will be 6! EEEK!

Maybe next year you can make Roxie's birthday be a birthday WEEK to make it up for her?

    Shame on you! 😉

I hope you made it up to her! Let her sleep in late and bring her breakfast in bed over the weekend. That should get you forgiven 🙂

Poor Roxie. She looks so happy in her party hat, how could you let her down. You've got some making up to do.

I make my dog a cake every year for his birthday. Yes, really. So, ha! I'm crazier than you!
