Ice Is Nice.

I am a huge fan of the Today Show. If I’m home Monday through Friday mornings, I always start my day watching it.

I was thrilled when I started seeing promos a while back about the 10th Anniversary of “Where in the World is Matt Lauer?”, which is five days’ worth of Matt traveling around the world and inviting viewers (as well as Ann, Al, and Natalie) to figure out where he’s going from a clue given the day before. It’s a great way to learn about some fantastically beautiful destinations, some of them familiar by name and some not.

Monday morning, I sent out a tweet asking that people in the Eastern time zone not send out spoilers, because I wanted to be surprised with the first destination of the week and find out as a viewer, not from Twitter. As it turns out, the NBC Community Manager answered me and we had an interesting exchange, which you can check out by clicking here (it’s on my Tumblr blog).

The highpoint of the week, for me, was yesterday. Matt’s destination–Jungfraujoch, in the Swiss Alps, literally brought me to tears–just a little watery: no ugly cry!–and I promptly put it on my bucket list. I couldn’t find pictures online that did it justice better than the actual opener on the Today Show, so check this out. Fast forward to 2:00 to see.

J came downstairs from his room after a while and I excitedly rewound it (I love my DVR). I said, “You HAVE to see this. We totally need to go here someday.”

He watched, mouth hanging wide open. “Wow, that’s cool! I’d love to go there!”

And then he said, “I wonder if they have any nice hotels there. I’d like to stay at a nice hotel.”

I said, “What are you talking about? You’ve stayed in nice hotels before!”

He said, “No I haven’t!”

Wondering just how spoiled this kid actually is when it comes to hotels, I said, “You have TOTALLY stayed in nice hotels! Pretty much every time we travel we stay in a nice hotel!”

*blink, blink*

He said, “An ICE hotel, mom. I want to stay in an ICE hotel.”

“Oh,” I said, “that’s different.”
