After talking about it for a year and a half, the time has finally come.
We are FINALLY making preparations to paint J’s (D’s former) room. As in, we bought the paint.
If his room were just any old traditional color, I wouldn’t be blogging about it. Some of you may recall, however, that the color has been an issue for some of us in the house (Jim) ever since we first applied it to the walls because of the anticipated amount of work it would eventually take to cover it. Let me refresh your memory:

When D started college and J eventually came around to the decision that he wanted to get rid of the blue, I asked him what color he’d like. He really liked the idea of gray but was having a hard time figuring it out for sure, so I–being a fan of walls that pop–suggested that we paint three of the walls a light gray and one wall a bright red. J, who displays his three guitars on his walls (one of which is red), was thrilled at that idea.
I bet you can guess who wasn’t so thrilled.

It’s okay though. I reassured Jim that it will all be fine, that painting the four walls (and the ceiling, which we had painted a dark-lavender-blue color) (yes, on purpose) with primer and THEN with the new color won’t be that big of a deal. His response? “Riiight. I predict we won’t even finish half of it before you’re a sobbing mess.”
He’s probably right. What do you all think? Can I make it through, or will I flop onto the floor in the fetal position, crying that I’ve given all I can give? Discuss.

I’m feeling with you. There’s a reason why ALL of our walls are still white, even though I had planned for some of them to be painted in another color. Painting sucks but anyway – good luck with it. I’m sure gray and read will look great.

I like color on walls so I’m of the “go for it” school of thought. If you don’t like it, you can always change it again. As for whether or not you’ll end up in tears before this is over, I can’t predict. All I know is that if you don’t try it, you’ll never know whether or not it’s the perfect color scheme for you. And the not knowing might be worse than the actual painting. Probably.

Oh, I am ALL for color on the walls. Also, loving the many different shades of gray that seem so popular now. We’re painting the girls’ room this month. Seeing as (at 18, 16 and 10) they have outgrown Barney shade of purple and ALL share the same room, it will be tough picking just one color. Also, getting rid of the purple. Stupid Barney!

Give yourself more time. Just get the primer on the room this weekend, and work on painting it next weekend. That is TOO MUCH for 2 days.
