So we are flying down the highway (within the speed limit, of course) in this awesome Chevy Traverse (more on that later) on our way back home from the Fab Five Fourth of July roadtrip to Tennessee extravaganza weekend, and I am posting from my phone. I have not opened my laptop since Friday (though I brought it). Storming MSI Chicago
On Saturday afternoon, the big birthday activity was the enjoyment of the Museum of Science and Industry. I always love going to MSI because it’s the museum I visited most as a child. It’s really cool that my boys love it, too. The newest exhibit at MSI is “Science Storms”. It was phenomenal, and I’m not even crazy about science OR weather systems. Here’s what it looks like from the Grand Hall in the middle of the museum: They have a tornado (yes, INSIDE! and SAFE!) that you can control: You can create your own rainbows by manipulating prisms in combination with sunlight: You can see what happens when you…

Having Fun At Uncle Fun
We had quite the weekend, what with the older boy’s birthday and Father’s Day. The birthday festivities actually started on Saturday and finished up on Monday night. We spent nearly twelve hours in the city on Saturday. The plan? Go to four places: Uncle Fun, Wow Bao for lunch, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the House of Blues for dinner. Well, we fit it all in, and had a great time. I’m going to tell you about Uncle Fun today, and I’ll write about Wow Bao on my review site in the next few days. Uncle Fun is one of my favorite places in Chicago. It’s a little…

Fruitastic Summer Salad
I’m headed over to my sister’s place this evening. We’re going to watch “Billy Elliott” (I’ve never seen it but it’s been on my list!) and enjoy dinner. I’m bringing what has become my go-to, easy-as-pie-and-tastes-just-as-good-too dessert this summer, the recipe for which actually came from my sister. “Fruitastic Salad” (she made up that name, but it fits!) 1/2 cup loosely packed fresh mint5 tablespoons sugar or splenda*juice/pulp of one lime Pulse mint, sugar and lime juice in blender or food processor until mostly liquified. You want the mint to be small. (You can use whatever fruit you want, fresh or frozen, in whatever amounts, but here’s a good guideline):1/2…

If Not Now, When?
Normally we don’t get up for less than $10,000 a day, but on Sunday we got up at O’Dark Thirty (3:15 a.m.) for one of the few other reasons we’d ever get out of bed at that time: Bike the Drive! Bike the Drive is an annual bike ride (duh) in downtown Chicago on Lake Shore Drive, which is one of the busiest (and most beautifully equipped with spectacular views) streets in town. The organizers close the LSD (yes, we really call it that) to cars for the morning, and it’s a phenomenal experience. The total distance, if you do the whole thing, is thirty miles. The last time we…
