The pursuit of sponsors is a hot and heavy topic right now because bloggers are smack-dab in the middle of conference season, and the Big One (BlogHer) is coming up in less than one short month. I typically restrict my commentary on finding a sponsor (or sponsors!) to offline conversations with friends, but yesterday I hit my tipping point when I read an especially audacious sponsorship post and now feel compelled to share my view on it. (Hopefully this will provide some education or at least food for thought for those who are new to the scene.) Finding a sponsor to help pay for the costs of attending a blogging…

College Search Tips For Parents
When I wrote yesterday’s post about J being newly engaged in his college search, it occurred to me that I have tons of advice for people who are embarking on the hunt for the right post-secondary school. Many people tend to freak out when their kids become high school sophomores and juniors because that’s when the college talk really kicks in from the high school’s end (if you’re lucky enough to have a high school that is on top of such things, that is). Many families don’t talk much about college before sophomore year, and then when they find out all there is to do along the way to making…

I Have Saved Over $2000 On Haircuts Alone.
No joke. Here’s the deal: home haircuts are a great way to save some money, especially if you have a man or two in your house who really loves a buzz cut. Why pay $10-15 (plus gas money) every four to six weeks when you can take care of it at home in five minutes? Let me back up. I was given the opportunity, after visiting the Housewares show in Chicago a couple of months ago, to review the new Wahl Lithium Ion Clipper and I jumped at the chance, not only because my old clipper is also a Wahl, but it is corded and on its last leg because…

You Can’t Take It With You.
Excruciating. That’s what kind of week it’s been around here. In early April my sister and I had a pretty tough week as we performed a heart-wrenching search for a good nursing home for our Bonus Grandma* M. This week was worse, because we have been helping to pack up her condo and–yesterday–moved her out of her beloved condo into her new (nursing) home. I have so many thoughts swirling through my head and could probably write for days about all of it, especially because that’s what I tend to do in order to cope, but I just can’t. Besides the fact that my sister and I feel very raw…

How I Do All That I Do, Part Three
In Part One I wrote about exactly how I juggle so many things. In Part Two I wrote about my thought process. I had great intentions with Part Three, but to be totally upfront and honest with you, it’s a hot mess. I need to begin by saying thanks to one of my blog readers, Susan, for emailing me a really sweet email and asking me “What’s next?” because that’s what kept my brain busy when I was mowing our lawn on Friday, and that’s when I came up with this three-part series. When someone asks me about what’s next, I honestly think about those Walt Disney World commercials. “You’ve…
