Boy Scout Training, or MacGyver? (You decide.)

The younger boy recently landed in the nurse’s office at school because he was playing football and injured his thumb when he caught the ball at a weird angle. The nurse called to tell me that they were icing it and she didn’t think he had broken it, but that we should (of course) keep an eye on it. Her unofficial diagnosis was that it was, at worst, sprained. I was working that day and spoke with him on the phone for only a minute, asking him to call me when he returned home so he could fill me in on how his thumb felt.

Later, I received a text which was too amusing to not write about for posterity. The text?

“When I got home, I fashioned a crude splint out of medical tape and a pen so it’ll last. It’s definitely sprained, though.”

Medical update: Most likely due to the splint he fashioned, his thumb was feeling better within 48 hours.

I love kids 🙂 I'm guessing yours is smart enough to keep the cap on the pen, too, huh?

    Great job Mom. Very cool.

I think it's great the school called you. When Jason broke his arm at school they told him to put his head down. It wasn't until the finally (hours later) called a nurse from another school to come check him out (I was home–5 minutes away–always), that they finally called me. Classic.

I love that he actually said that he "fashioned a crude splint". Your kids are the greatest.

What about MacGrueber? hahahahaha. That's a smart idea, I never would have thought about that. 😉

I'm going with Boy Scout training. MacGuyver probably only would have had access to duct tape 🙂

Sounds like Scouting to me! And speaking of Scouting, Kyle's meeting with our local chapter regarding his Eagle project is TOMORROW!!
