PSA: I’m Making A Name Change.

Don’t worry, I’m not changing the name of this blog. (I can’t imagine anyone literally worrying about that, but nonetheless…)

I have decided, after 3-1/2 years of blogging, to make things easier on myself (and probably you, too) by referring to my boys by their first initial. ” When I first started blogging, I called them “the fifteen year old” and “the twelve year old”, and then a year went by and they were “the sixteen year old” and “the thirteen year old”. Then I began referring to them as “the younger boy” and “the older boy”. Gah. It’s enough to make a person dizzy.

Frankly, not only are those nicknames a pain to type, but as time goes on, my sons are less like boys and more like young men; though one will always be younger and one will always be older, they’re really growing up and I just think it’s going to be better all around, this way.

Many of you know their real (full) names already, but I’m just going to use the first letters because it’s my way of preserving a shred of privacy for them and make it so that, if their names are googled, 1,000 pages from the Scrawl won’t pop up on command.

Anyhoo, from this point forward, the older boy will be referred to as “D” (no quotes, though), and the younger boy will be referred to as “J” (also, no quotes).

Thank you for your time and attention. Carry on.

Ackk another thing for me to remember, older D, younger J. At least you had the forethought of naming them in alphabetical order and for this I thank you.

If anyone ever went back through the history of my blog, they'd find my kids referred to as the boy, the girl, Luke, Leah, L, C, and finally, Logan and Cassie. I figure it'll be good and confusing at least. 😉

I've blogged since 2002, and I have never mentioned my much-better-half's name or either of our 2 boys name…

…this way, it's easier for them to deny even knowing me.

Thanks for the head's up. Now I just have to remember if D is the older one, or if J is, or the other way around.

I think that you should have gone all hip and called them "The son, previously known as older boy" and the son previously known as younger boy" and just given them symbols as names.

    That would have been funny.

Yeah, I mess with how I identify my children, too. Every once in a while, real names slip in. Often, I refer to "The Girl" (no quotes), which is what my three boys call their sister. The younger boys are often called Thing 1 and Thing 2 (just 16 months apart). The twins (boy/girl) are sometimes, but rarely, called the twins. I figure if you know us, you know; if you don't, it doesn't really matter anyway as long as I put the references in a context.

Well then, that's that! When I blogged a lot more in the beginning I used to make up names for people…but I forgot who they were and what their code names were, so I just put "my friend" and then used their names. Very few "real life" friends know about my blog anyway-and none of my Boston friends know about it so I'm safe.

Wow. That was a really long run on paragraph about…nothing really!

    Aren'tcha glad I'm back? LOL

You could call one of them "Homey" and the other "College Boy". Or assign them symbols, like # and %. It worked for Prince. For a while.

I am resistant to change, anytime I see D or J, I will mentally convert the letters to the older boy and younger boy. Over time it will become second nature and I won't even see the D's and J's anymore.

This is my way of fighting the powers that be!!!! lol

Thanks for the warning. Change scares me. And the unannounced appearance of new characters named D and J might have been enough to send me screaming.
