    From Rags To…Ragtime!

Several years back, Jim and I had a big double date planned with our two fabulous friends, Scott and Dawn*. This wasn’t just any old “girls beat the boys’ pants off at cards” kind of date like it usually is; it was a REAL date: a “get dressed up, head downtown for a nice dinner and a musical” kind of date. Yes, I said musical. I can feel Nukedad, Tom, and the other guys clenching up a bit at the thought of enduring a musical, but wait. This one had a plot thick with historical significance, and was not a chick flick-style show like, say, “Legally Blonde: The Musical!” It…

Help Me Help Him Get Out

I guess I’m in a pretty helpful mood this week. First I gave blood. Then I sent a shout-out about helping Sarah pay for her dream come true. Now it’s Nukedad’s turn. You see, Nukedad just applied for a cushy job in the Land Down Undah. The job? Taking care of an island. The pay? $100,000 USD. The job description? Unbelievable. I’ll just let you read his post about it, here. Make sure that you watch his application video and give it 5 stars; he said that if he gets the job, I get to take care of his beagles, Buddy and Penny, while he’s gone. Roxie and I would…

Help Me Help Her Get Help

Today’s post is a shout-out for some assistance. My girl Sarah over at Snarkalicious is quite obsessed with NKOTB, which, if you’re unaware, stands for New Kids on the Block. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate her obsession probably about a 76. And that’s being conservative*. Sarah, who saw NKOTB in concert twice last year, just bought a ticket to another performance, and she spent the extra bucks to actually meet ALL of them. Anyway, being the fiscally responsible wife and mom that she is, she was trying to think of a way to raise a little bit of cash to pay for this “5-star ticket”…

    Breaker One-Nine, What’s Your Handle?

The blogging community is a powerful thing. There’s really nothing like it. Since I started blogging, I have made countless friends and have enjoyed reading other people’s personal stories. When great things happen to each of you, I’m cheering. When sadness strikes your home, I’m crying with you. And it goes both ways. Some of you have checked on me when I have had an uncharacteristically bad day, and I have received countless “Woot!”s and “Yay you!”s when I have posted about something exciting. Although I have met very few of you in person, I talk about you all the time as if you’ve been in my life for years…

A Comeback After Only Two Months? Shirley, You Must Be Kidding!

Something amazing happened yesterday. Have you ever met a survivor? I mean, a *real* one. I know somebody who is incredible. Shirley, one of the founding four in my Wednesday spin class, made a big comeback last night. How big? Huge. Two months ago, Shirley suffered a stroke. At the health club. Our Wednesday class was heartbroken and worried. Phone calls and e-mails were flying, everyone trying to get the scoop on her condition. Although I had reservations about it at first, we had a festive class for my 40th birthday that week (because Shirley would have been really ticked off if we didn’t celebrate*) and set up a bike…
