As It Turns Out, He’s Way More Accurate Than Nostradamus

D returned home from college for the weekend today, and the first order of business (after he messed around with Roxie for a minute) was to open those two letters from his younger self.

The first envelope contained some specific personal goals, like (as I mentioned yesterday) “Be nicer to J”, “Be better at turning in my homework”, and other things that, thank goodness, he has learned to do over the past four to five years. (Did I mention here that his GPA for first semester in college this year was a 3.752? WOOT!)

That piece of paper was pretty awesome, but it was the letter in the OTHER envelope that blew us both away:

Dear Me,

Four years from now I see myself as an Eagle Scout. I will also have made accomplishments in the field of graphic design. I will have made great strides in the field of my religion. I hope that this is me now.

Sincerely,
Myself

What’s next on our agenda for the evening? I’m going to have him think about lottery numbers and horse races.

Wow. Actually, this says a lot about his being focused and sticking with things he puts his mind to. He is a credit to your parenting.

That's very awesome. Obviously he's good at deciphering what's important to him and making it happen.

(Can I say how jealous I am of how much he comes home? No idea when we'll see Rebekah again.)

Mom, as we say in the south, " you done good". What a great guy. I know the extreme joy and pride it is to have your first in college, spreading those wings, taking those steps and achieving so many things when you remember how they could't pour a glass of milk without spilling it. So heart breaking yet heart warming at the same time shout out to the 3.75 and all his other awesomeness.

AMAZING! I so believe in these "Future self"letter. My friend wrote this post (http://tinyurl.com/6evevzu) and I wrote a letter to myself to read next year. Your post proves her point. I love it!

I'm linking this post as one on my favorite for the week in tomorrow's post! Hope that's ok 🙂

I'm so proud of "D" and "J" they have proven to me not to give up on this world we still have hope. After all the stories you read and hear about kids and the problems they are having, this is so great. Thanks to the parents on how they were brought up too.

Give them and kiss and hug for me.

    Love
