The Ride

P7190083I was going to write a really cool post about how, yesterday, I was finding some great parallels between riding a bike and life itself.

I was going to write about how interesting it is that, just like in life, when you ride a bike it doesn’t do you much good to look behind you very often, but it serves you well to keep a good eye on what’s coming up, both up close and in the distance.

I was going to write about how, with just a quick decision or sometimes by accident, you can take a different direction altogether. Sometimes it ends up fine, and sometimes it doesn’t.

I was going to write about how, in life and on a bike, the harder you work, the quicker you arrive at your destination.

I was going to write about how if you get a flat tire, it doesn’t do you any good to sit there and be upset about it: the important thing is to fix it and keep moving.

And I was going to write about how the journey is supposed to be the interesting part, not the destination, and how a truly successful ride comes out of the balance between work and enjoying what’s around you.

But I decided I couldn’t really put it into words.

The ice packs on your knees after a ride are analogous of some life lesson too right?

Once you find a way to put all this into words, it will be beautiful…

Man, I hope you learn how to put stuff into words soon. That’d be great.

I’ve never owned a bike, and I wouldn’t trust myself on one on a busy street, or really anywhere. But I agree with all of your comparisons to life. Luckily, I own a life and I’m very comfortable riding it. Sometimes I need a helmet though. Pretty often, actually.
