DIY Brain

I have a confession to make.

Inappropriate thoughts have been taking over my brain and making it hard for me to focus.

You see, I’m thinking about DIY home renovations again.

IT WASN’T MY FAULT. I blame Jim. He took me to Home Depot over the weekend so we could procure the supplies we need to re-roof and re-paint our shed, which we built about ten years ago. It’s in dire need of repair.

Unfortunately, in order to get to the roof shingles at Home Depot, you have to walk through pretty much every single other department. I started drooling.

It’s been nearly a year since we spent any time walking the aisles there: we were working on our upstairs bathroom renovation last summer and I think one of us went there every day for a long stretch of time. And then, a dry spell.

On our way to the back corner of the store where the roofing supplies are located, we were seduced by some vanity cabinets and ceramic floor tiles that look like wood planks. Now that the upstairs bathroom–which was the bane of my very existence–is done, my mind is on the downstairs bathroom. Oh, it’s “fine” the way it is, but my wheels are turning. We would need to gut that room too. The design possibilities are endless but you won’t be surprised to learn that I know exactly what I want it to look like when finished.

My brain is also stuck on the wallpaper that covers one wall in D’s room. When we moved in the previous owners told us that they couldn’t get the previous owners’ wallpaper off of that one wall so they just put up the pink heart wallpaper for their daughter. We listened to that story and just covered the pink hearts with a blue/white/rust vertical stripe wallpaper. Now I’m thinking, “HOW HARD COULD IT BE TO GET THAT WALLPAPER OFF (and maybe I should give it a shot)??”

I’m also thinking about our garage. It’s junky. It has decent storage shelves but maybe they could be better.

And our laundry room. It’s an icky, unfinished room (which also houses our furnace and water heater) that I think would look spectacular with real walls and maybe some curtains.

I can’t think about this. I have no time (or budget) to take any of this on.

Well, maybe if I do one thing at a time…

Just a reminder: don’t forget about the LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER and The Partnership at Drugfree.org livestreaming event tonight at 9:00 p.m. EST. More info here!

It’s totally Jim’s fault, that much is obvious. But I was once told that you can make any quilt in 15 minutes a day, so surely the same principle applies here? 😉

FIFTEEN MINUTES??? Uh yeah, if that’s true then surely I can do all of my home reno projects in a matter of two weeks or so, right? 🙂

ha! I had to read that three times. Okay, now I get it. So it might take me more than a couple weeks at 15 minutes a day is what you’re saying. Guess I’m pretty much back to where I started. LOL!
