I had an awesome conversation this afternoon with the boys. We went out together to run a few errands and, on the way home, passed our local “eat dinner and have drinks in the theater while you watch a movie” place. I mentioned that I’d like to go there sometime (it opened last fall and we haven’t been yet!), and the older boy said, “Yeah, you know, Christopher Lloyd was there recently and they showed ‘Back to the Future’; isn’t that cool?” I told him that celebrities go there all the time to make appearances. For example, Richard Dreyfuss was there a couple of months ago, for a special showing…

Shrinkage
Sharpies are used for many things in this house. If you’re a regular reader (thankyouverymuch!), you’ll recall that not only are they used to make ridiculous marks on food containers for the purpose of claiming them–much like a dog marks his territory by urinating on it–but they are also used to mark clothing tags with a dot so Jim and I know whose clothing is whose*. Recently a Sharpie was put to yet another use. The older boy’s clothing has a natural path: New ||V Worn by older boy ||V Handed down to younger boy** ||V Never*** given up by younger boy The younger boy’s dresser drawers hang precariously open…

Hanukkah Fun, Minus One
A few months ago, Julesie bought the boys tickets to see “Young Frankenstein: The Musical” for Hanukkah, and Jim and I bought tickets for ourselves so we could tag along. Yesterday was the day, and the plan was to go to the city for the musical and then head back to our house for latkes and blintzes and more Hanukkah fun. The best laid plans… Unfortunately, Julesie came down with a little case of food poisoning, and couldn’t go. It was a huge bummer, not only because this was her gift to the boys, but because we love us a little Fab Five Fun. Did I mention what a big…

Sing Like No One Is Listening*
I mentioned recently that my sister Julesie gave me Season 1 of “The Muppet Show” for my birthday. One of the best sketches from the DVD set is one that most of us (all except for Jim of course, who, because of a childhood full of “wasteful” activities that kept him away from the television**–like playing outside and reading–does not have a brain that is a magnet for catch phrases, funny lines, or addictive tunes like the rest of us) have had stuck in our heads for two weeks now: For about a week after we five sat in my family room on the night of my birthday celebration and…

Happily, Some Things Never Change.
It’s been nearly a year since we had it in the house, and it was practically World War III. Well, sort of. Jim stopped at the store on the way home tonight and picked some up, just for giggles… …and we found out that some things never change. But it was funny. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, get the full story here.
