I Will Do Anything For Health, But I Won’t Do That

My sister has had a raging cold for about three weeks now. She’s been coughing her poor head off, and generally feeling icky, though this week she definitely shows solid signs of being on the mend. Jim got it last weekend. The speed with which he was slammed with the cold and accompanying cough was staggering. Saturday he was fine. Saturday night he felt ill. Sunday he declared that he had never felt that bad in his life. Monday he went to the doctor and was given antibiotics and a warning that if he didn’t feel better by Wednesday, he should come back so they could look for pneumonia. I…

It’s Amazing We Ever Get Anything Done

Back in November I showed you a little bit of the behind-the-scenes process that Tracey and I go through for the Listen To Your Mother show. Being silly is a part of our partnership and I wouldn’t want it any other way. (Err, mostly. I wouldn’t want to commit to that statement 100% because I might lose my “Taskmaster Card”.) We are indeed, more often than not, silly. Today’s evidence is a conversation that resulted from this Facebook status I posted after I had been trying to finish up a huge article for deadline and then, well, it’s self-explanatory: The status: OH MY GOSH, Tracey’s cell phone is calling me…

    Old Friends

It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson As we have for MANY of the last twenty-six years, Jim and I rang in the new year with our oldest friends, Dawn and Scott. Scott and Jim were in Navy boot camp together back in 1985 and Dawn and I became penpals shortly after that. We married only eight days apart in 1986 and grew close when the guys were both stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. I could tell you lots more about our history but I already wrote about it extensively four years ago, HERE. (You’ll want to…

I Laugh Because She Thinks *I* Did *HER* A Favor.

Last night I was online (surprise, surprise) and happened to check my Tweetdeck to see what all of my Twitter friends were up to. I noticed this, from my friend Jen: I decided to respond with a sincere offer: As usual, Jen’s response to my response was devoid of any emotion whatsoever: Actually, I was getting ready to go out to dinner with Jim and the boys, but I told Jen I was very serious about the offer to help and I would be happy to stop by her house for a while after my TDM class this morning. We had a series of Direct Messages which included her asking…

    On Crossed Wires

It’s super funny when you and your sister make a date to go to a friend’s house for lunch and cotton candy on a dreary, rainy Saturday, and this phone conversation happens: *ring ring* Jen: Hello? Me: Hi! So…is 11:30 okay? My sister asked me what time we were doing lunch and when I told her 11:00, she thought that meant we were leaving at 11:00 but *I* meant that we had to be there by 11:00, and due to that misunderstanding we’re running a little late this morning. So is 11:30 okay? Jen: Uh… Me: No? Is 11:30 a problem? Jen: Uh…*I* had 12:30. Me: OH! 12:30? Okay, that’s…
