    Last Call!

Tracey and I are nearing the end of a very important stage in the process of putting on LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER in Chicago: submissions (for the Chicago show only) are due this Tuesday! Just in case you’ve missed all of the information, I’m going to send you to our show’s local page. For the last two weeks we’ve done a series of posts that provide reasons why you should submit an essay. I’m pretty proud of it. There’s a link at the end of each post that will take you to the page that details our submission guidelines. We are SO EXCITED about what we’ve received so far. I…

    Coca-Cola Balanced Living Workshop–A-ha Moments!

I was compensated for my participation in Coca-Cola’s Balanced Living Workshop, but my thoughts and views are my own. So, I’m back. It probably won’t surprise you to learn that when I was telling people that I was going to a Balanced Living Workshop about health and wellness that was hosted by Coca-Cola, I got a lot of the following: “Huh?” “Coca-Cola? RIGHT.” “hahahahahaha!” The fact is, not only does Coca-Cola have so many brands–including lots of no- and low-calorie drinks–that I would rather link to them than list them here, but they also have some great initiatives that make it easier for people to enjoy healthier servings of their…

If You Need Me, I’ll Be Learning How To Live With More Balance at Coca Cola’s Balanced Living Workshop…

I was compensated for my participation in Coca-Cola’s Balanced Living Workshop, but my thoughts and views are my own. I am constantly trying to search for balance in my life; if you’re a regular here, you already know that. I’m constantly juggling a bunch of different projects, my workouts and my family stuff, all while trying to weave a bunch of fun in there somewhere. (Making room for fun, I admit, is something at which I excel. Go figure.) Sometimes though, it’s important to get serious. Being a mom in my forties, I am busier than ever but also finally coming to the realization that taking care of myself really…

Listen To Your Mother 2013: And We’re Off!

I am SO thrilled to help spread the word that the 2013 season of Listen To Your Mother officially begins today!! Tracey and I will be co-producing the show in Chicago again (our 2nd year: wahoo!), but if you’re not in our area don’t worry: it’s likely you live near another 2013 show city. Why? Because LTYM has expanded from ten cities in 2012 to TWENTY-FOUR cities in 2013! (Wow, I know!) Here is the beautifully-produced announcement video: More information about who is producing the other shows is coming soon, as is audition information and all of those other details that will gradually get us to show day in May.…

How To Start A Babysitting Co-op

Although my boys are way-old now, I have many, many friends who still have young ones. A common complaint is that the cost of babysitting can make a kid-free outing financially stressful at best, financially impossible at worst. One of my friends just posted a Facebook thread about this very topic and said that in checking around for a babysitter for her two young boys (five and nine), it would cost ten dollars an hour. If she and her husband decided to go out to an evening movie (including popcorn and drinks), the date would easily cost them in the neighborhood of $60-70. FOR A MOVIE. I have been suggesting…

    Totally Worth The 30-Year Wait.

Something incredible happened this weekend. I don’t even feel like I can put a proper post together, partly because I only got five hours of sleep and partly because I still can’t believe it. My sister and I saw Adam Ant live last night. If you don’t know me well, you might think, “Oh, cool…I guess.” It was beyond cool. Trust me. You may recall that Adam Ant was my Numero Uno back in the 80s. I wrote about my obsession here, in a post that even includes a picture of me dressed up as Adam Ant for Halloween 1983. I never saw him in a live concert, though. Back…

Redefining The Time Management Skills I Don’t Have.

At the beginning of September, I took on a part-time contractor job (as in “contracted position”, not as in “plumber”) and officially completed my transition from working “partly outside of the home” to working at home, full-time. (It’s full-time when you count all of the things I’ve got my grubby little paws on.) I LOVE IT. As in, I can’t even describe how much I love it. As in, most of the time I don’t even feel like I’m working because I like what I’m doing so much. As in, often I look up from my laptop and think, “I really need to quit fooling around and get to work!”…

    Retired.

I have been alluding to some changes as of late, and one of them happens today. This evening I will be teaching my last spin class, ever. I have been thinking about retiring for months now (after teaching for more than nine years!) for many reasons. Just a few of them are: 1. The reason I started teaching in the first place was because I loved taking group fitness classes and thought A) I’d be good at teaching and B) Why not get paid to do something I really enjoy, but once I started teaching I mostly stopped TAKING classes and as I got further from that part of it,…

It’s Not How You Start, It’s How You Finish.

Anything, really, but in this case? It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish…the day. I felt the need to post a second time today because although my day started with the annoyance over the textbook situation, overall my day was really good and I can’t stand seeing an icky negative post on top of my little old’ blog here. So much happened today, and I can’t write about any of it in detail. Or at all. What I CAN do is be very vague and philosophical about life. You’re welcome. The thing is, life is full of changes…but I despise change. I always have. Like, I can’t even…

    Fast Family

I was at an event last night with some great company: my sister and about half the cast of the Chicago LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER show. Sitting around that table, we laughed and joked and teased each other like we’d known each other forever. We hadn’t. In fact, “forever” couldn’t be further from the truth. Well, except in the case of my sister and me, because, you know. I had realized something interesting a couple of days ahead of our meet-up: the members of our cast who were able to come to the meet-up were all, with one exception (plus my sister, of course), people who Tracey and I had…
