    Blogger Love For Brandie

    May 17, 2011

Sometimes, when we least expect it, life can throw a curveball. Most of them are things that can be dealt with quickly and easily. Some can completely blindside us, leaving us in shock for a while. When those happen, being supported by our loved ones, even though they may not be able to fix the problem, can help our spirit heal. The Chicago-based bloggers are a tight bunch, and we are rallying for one of our own today. Brandie from A Journey of 1000 Stitches Begins With Just One, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 31 (she turned 32 yesterday). The speed with which something wrong…

Cruzing Chicagoland: Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana

    May 13, 2011

One of the great things about General Motors (major sponsor of my Chicago book launch event) is their involvement with various charities. It was inspiring to me, and when I started planning my event I decided to “hook up” with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana. They do beyond-wonderful things by providing a “home away from home” for families with hospitalized children, and I’ve been involved with them in the past (not to mention my close ties with the McDonald’s brand), so it was a great match. My friend Margaret and I took a Cruze (literally) to the Lincoln Park neighborhood to check out the House…

    Cruzing Chicagoland: Threadless Headquarters

    May 13, 2011

I had heard that the Chicago headquarters of the Threadless T-shirt company is one of those epic, must-see places. I’ve seen a couple of pictures in magazine features about it, and was thrilled to take a ride over there in the 2011 Chevy Cruze that General Motors loaned me for a week (Disclosure: GM is the major sponsor of my Chicago book launch event), to record a tour for your enjoyment. What struck me about the headquarters is how extremely laid-back the place was, even way more than I expected. The place exudes a vibe of “Fun” rather than “Work”, and had I not actually witnessed employees busily doing their…

Even *I* Didn’t See The End Of This Post Coming.

    May 9, 2011

I have been using the same camera since 2005. It’s an Olympus Camedia C-60 Zoom, which I purchased on sale at Office Depot for, I think, approximately $225. If you asked Jim to describe it, he would say, “It’s a brick.” It is indeed chunky (and heavy) for its size, when you compare with what’s available today. I had a little giggle when I googled it a minute ago and found the 2004 review of it on CNET (click here). Oddly, not one user said, “I anticipate this camera to be the best camera I’ve owned in my life so far, and I bet it’ll last me AT LEAST six…
