It’s been a super-busy day and I have about 10 posts floating around in my head (and I have to do a meme I was tagged for by Melissa too!), but if I don’t get off the computer in five minutes I will have no “down time” before bed, so I’m keeping it short… Yay! I finally got a CD full of photos that I’ve been waiting for since July 2007. What’s so great about these photos? They were taken by one of the other two adults who was on the boat with us for our Boy Scout High Adventure trip to the Bahamas last summer. Yes, I took almost…

Brothers Who Make Me Giddy
This is so adorable. (Note to Katie: pay close attention…they’re from your fave place!) I wonder what they’ll be like about 12 years from now? Oh. Maybe something like this: (*Note #1: I am suddenly a little saddenned by watching this. The twelve-year-old’s voice is SO low now, and this was shot less than a year ago…ugh.) (*Note #2: Yeah, those are my laundry baskets. No, I DON’T fold clothes as they come out of the dryer. Sue me.)

Getting All Giddy About Foreigners
I was going to title this post “Why Foreigners Make Me Giddy”, but I’m not sure if I know exactly why they make me giddy. Maybe some of you, my trusty blog friends, can analyze this and tell me why! Here is the rundown on my foreign connections, starting way back in the days of my childhood: 1. In 5th grade, a set of twin girls from Germany (I still remember their names: Claudia and Corinna Heine!) came to my town to stay with their Grandma for the year. I befriended Corinna and spent lots of days at her Oma’s house, learning all kinds of stuff about German language, baking,…

Happy Birthday, Mom!
It’s the birthday of our (mine and Julie’s!) mom today! Can I get a Holla! from all over the world, please? I have some photos to share, of course, dating from 1968 to now. I also have childhood photos of mom, but didn’t have time to find them. That’s right, FIND them. I will now type one of mom’s favorite sayings: They’re here, SOMEWHERE. (I say it all the time, too!) I’ll get to the pictures in a minute. First, because we always give Mom a hard time, I want to get some of the funny facts about her out of the way at the top. Funny facts about our…

The Best Thing Ever, When You Like a Quirky Murder Mystery
I wanted to spend a short post to promote one of my family’s favorite new(er) shows. It’s called “Life”, and it’s on NBC. The first season just finished a couple of weeks ago, but it looks like the network is running it again, from the beginning, starting January 19 at 9 p.m. (I think that’s Eastern time) We LOVE this show. The lead character, Charlie Crews, is a cop who was convicted of a double murder that he didn’t commit and put in prison for 12 years. The show picks up upon his release from prison, after he gets a HUGE settlement and an apology for being the wrong guy.…

Gimme A Break!
In the next couple of days I will post about why foreigners make me giddy. (Not in the same way they make my sister giddy, though! Stay tuned!) In the meantime, I have to share with you the exciting surprise I received in the mail–yes, from a foreigner–over the weekend. I checked the mailbox on Saturday and was delighted to see a puffy envelope shoved in there within an inch of its life. I pulled it out and saw the little blue international Air Mail sticker and felt my heartbeat speed up. “Yay,” I exclaimed to nobody but myself, “I got a package from the U.K.!” There was no return…

You’ve Heard of Mom & Baby Workouts…
It’s a busy day so I plan on a longer post tomorrow, but this was just too funny. It’s in the 50’s in Chicagoland today and all the snow is melting for now. No time to waste: I took Roxie for a nice, long, 70-minute walk this morning to tire us both out and to fulfill my commitment to myself to improve my workouts. We came back sweaty (probably just me) and filthy (mostly her) and I decided to do some arm work and some ab work using the fitness ball I got for my birthday. Then, this happenned. I guess she thought I had done enough for today. UPDATE:…

Ben Stiller Would Be Proud
“Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty.” (~Derek Zoolander) “YOU are the essence of annoyance.”(~My twelve-year-old, speaking to my fifteen-year-old, after arguing about the exact wording of the above quote)

Shameless Plug, Part Two (or, “Dragging This Out For One Extra Day”)
Thanks for everyone’s nice comments! I really, really, really feel all warm and fuzzy with everyone’s enthusiasm. Two additions to my book information: 1. If you would like the html coding to put a cute little amazon link to my book on your blog (see mine on the right!), e-mail me and I will not only be happy to send it to you, but will also think about you every night as I am spraying my pillow mist. 2. I forgot to mention that my book is still a part of Amazon’s “4 for 3” special, meaning that you can buy any combination of 4 books that are classified as…

Shameless Plug
Now that the holidays are over, it’s time for me to get back to business on a few things, one of them being writing (yay!), and I’m not just talking about bloggin’! The three magazine articles which I’ve already gotten assignments for are calling me, and (I’m putting it out in the universe not as a resolution but as a commitment) I plan to send off several queries to some new magazines by this Monday. The other piece of “business” I need to get back to is promoting my book, Remembering Ruby: For Families Living Beyond the Loss of a Pet. Many of you knew me from my other blog…
