The Best Thing Ever When You Want To Count Your Blessings

There probably aren’t a lot of folks out there at this point who haven’t heard of Randy Pausch, the Carnegie Mellon University professor whose “Last Lecture” has been viewed online a couple million times. If you don’t know about him, click here for more information. If you want to watch his lecture, here it is: get comfy! (this is the whole lecture from start to finish!) Last Wednesday night, there was a Primetime special about Randy on ABC. Jim and I watched it together and boy, was it a tearjerker. At the same time, we couldn’t get over this man’s attitude. We are unsure if, faced with the same circumstance,…

Are We Running Out of Creative Genius?

I posted this recently on Cre8buzz’s Anthill, a forum within the Cre8buzz community on which multiple bloggers post what’s on their minds. I really liked the way it turned out, so I’m reposting it here for my peeps! First, a warning: this post is not for the faint-of heart. I have a major issue that’s been growing inside my brain for a while now. I think it all started when I began to notice snippets of classic songs from the ’80s being sampled all over the songs on today’s charts. I was able to contain my annoyance when the distinctive beat from Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love” showed up as the…

Most of You Didn’t Have a Chance.

Each and every one of you was close but not as specific as I was looking for…LOL It was actually a trick question, because nobody except for my sister could have remotely guessed the exact answer, and either she didn’t figure it out or she did but didn’t want to put it out there in the universe. The answer is: What all of those things have in common is: all of those shows, performances, and events are things that my sister and I WILL HAVE SEEN by Thursday, July 10 of this year. Happy Aunt’s Day early, Joozie! We’re going to see George Michael on his first U.S. tour in…

    Go Tina, Go!

I just wanted to give a shout-out and ask you all to keep your fingers crossed… Shirley’s daughter, Tina T. takes my group cycling classes when she can. The first time I saw her, I thought, “WOW, she is ‘cut’!” This girl is super-fit and clearly an athlete. As I got to know her, I found out that she plays basketball and also coaches for a local high school girl’s team. She is very focused, very “together”, and I really, really enjoy when she makes it to my class. A little more than a week ago, we found out at the healthclub that Tina got an invitation to try out…

    Not Just Another Hallmark Holiday

In fact, I don’t believe it’s even a Hallmark holiday at all! Last year we started a new tradition in our family that is really fun: Aunt’s Day. A funny coincidence happened on the way to this decision. Jim and I were in Tennessee over Mother’s Day weekend (returning the afternoon of Mother’s Day) for a bike ride he wanted to do in the mountains (I passed on that opportunity) on Saturday, and the kids were being supervised by Aunt Julie. Over that weekend, I was having a conversation with my mom about how much Julie means to us and how she’s always there for us, I wanted to give…

Lacrosse Update: 1 Game Down, 21 To Go

Our fifteen-year-old is playing Lacrosse for the first time this year, after a lifetime of no sports whatsoever and just picking up a stick for the very first time last spring. If you’re a newbie around here, bring yourself up to date by clicking here and then here. I keep forgetting to post about what has happened since he made the JV team. A couple of days into practicing, his coach started sending him over to the Freshman/Sophomore team for some of their drills, and told him he would be, just like a couple of other JVers, playing for both teams because the F/S team was a little short-handed. He…

Is There A Method to My M&M Madness?

I was at a meeting at the temple last night and somebody brought a big ole’ bag of M&Ms. I poured some onto a little plate and was halfway through with them when I realized that I was eating them one color at a time. (Red last) That got me thinking about my M&M eating habits and I thought I’d throw some questions out there; I bet some of you out there have some secret quirks regarding M&Ms that you wouldn’t mind sharing! 1. Do you eat your M&Ms one at a time, a couple at a time, or by the handful? 2. Do you eat them according to a…

Perhaps Julia Child Wasn’t On Time Very Often, Either.

Yes, yes, so my sister arrived about two hours later than she said she would, but the dinner was worth the wait, I am happy to announce. (I guess that can be the fourth thing that is for sure: that any meal my sister prepares is absolutely fabulous) The menu? Steak au Poivre, potato salad (not just any potato salad: this recipe was phenomenal.), and Roasted Broccoli with crispy Parmesan and Lemon. Is your mouth watering yet? I didn’t take photos of the entire preparation process because, frankly, I wanted to just relax and enjoy myself. But when Julie told me that she had to flame up the steak with…

    7 Random Things About Moi

Since I have the time, I thought I’d take care of this little tag I got from Stacey. I have to list 7 random things about me. I’ll try to make it slightly entertaining. 1. When I was in 4th grade, I had my first crush on a boy, Jay. Jay actually lived in the same cul-de-sac as my very good friend Suzanne. One day, I was talking on the phone with Suzanne and she was asking me all of these questions about Jay (she knew I liked him, alot) and got me to say something ridiculous about how I was in love with him, and then she said, “Guess…
