What To Make For Dessert That Will Have Everyone Humming…

I’m swamped at the moment, between my Productivity project and trying to catch up on a few other things this week, so today I thought I’d give you Christmas-celebratin’ folks a great (and easy!) last-minute recipe, should you need a dessert at some point this week. It’s called Hummingbird Cake and though I’m probably way off, I consider it a sister of the carrot cake. It’s got pecans, pineapple, and banana in it, and the frosting is of the cream cheese variety. It is, as my sister (and Weaselmomma) would say, “STUPID GOOD.”

When I wanted to make it last week, I couldn’t find the recipe I got from my sister years ago (you know, because I made the cake before I organized my kitchen cabinet where my recipes are located), so I went to the next best thing, after my sister: Paula Deen. Click here for her recipe, as shared on Martha Stewart’s site. (I know: there’s all SORTS of genius associated with this cake!)

ENJOY!

Love this cake. It's total YUM. My granny used to say, it was a hummingbird cake because if you let a child have a piece they will run as fast as a hummingbird will fly. so in my family you could not eat it until you were 12 in my family it was like a coming of age.

My wife made one of these for me for my birthday one year and it was very good. Only thing is she used buttercream frosting as I'm not a fan of cream cheese frosting.

we actually have around 10 "individualized " recipes for it, since some don't like monkey fruit, nuts, or cream cheese. sometimes we ad raisins or coconut, or whatever that person grooves on.

Oh My God! How delicious! I may make this for New Year's since we are ordering in food. Too much to cooke on Christmas eve! But YUM all those flavors…I can't wait to try it!

Mmmmm I keep hearing about this (from you, of course), but I've never had it. So is this the Paula Deen version of the Julesie version? And which was better? I want a slice!
