Did you know that I make notecards, announcements, and invitations? I’ve done it for years, ever since my life became way too busy for scrapbooking. I love crafting cards out of paper* and cool embellishments: it’s relaxing for me. (Well, except when I decide to make way more than I need “since I’ll be doing it anyway”…that’s just ridiculous. When will I learn???) I’ve done baby announcements, save the date cards, engagement and graduation party invites, and of course, birthday invitations. I love stretching myself creatively to come up with something that surprises people. A few weeks ago, I made some holiday notecards (blank inside) to sell at the salon.…

Birthday Presents Good Enough To Eat!
My sister Julesie had a birthday on Friday, and because of the fitness conference I had this weekend–recap post is in progress–and the fact that the younger boy had the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night, we had to schedule the birthday festivities for this evening. We went out to a favorite restaurant, and then it was, of course, time for rainbow cake. Regular readers already know that the rainbow cake is a staple of almost all of our family birthday celebrations: our mom has made us rainbow cakes since we can remember, and I’ve carried on the tradition. Analyze This: The Doors and Windows Question
One of the things I’ve learned over the past six weeks in regards to myself as a “photographer” (I have to put that in quotes; I’m not sure why.) is that I really, really enjoy taking photographs of doors and windows. Open or closed, it doesn’t matter. Plain or decorated, it doesn’t matter. What does that say about me as a person? I’m certain that there is some special meaning hidden somewhere; it probably tells something about my personality. Hey Holger, what are you doing there? An “expert” might say that I like to look for other ways of doing things. Or that I am the type of person who…
- Childhood Memories, Do I Really Want My Readers To Know This?, I'm Apparently Old., I've Got Mad Skillz, Writing
My Poems, By Melisa
I have given myself a good chuckle AND creeped myself out simultaneously by opening this book for the first time in years, even though it has resided on the bookshelf–mere steps from me–in our family room for absolutely forever. I wrote in this book of poems from May 10, 1978 until February 23, 1981. No, no…don’t be impressed. There are only eleven pages full of poems. The rest of the book? ENTIRELY BLANK. Because I enjoy giving my readers a good laugh and don’t mind making fun for you at my own expense, I will now share some of these works of art with you. Please note the obvious impact…

Aaaaand…This Is How It Begins.
I did it. I “broke the seal”, so to speak. I like to do many things, but planning and list-making are definitely up there at the top, that is, if I were to prioritize (by making a list, of course!) my most favorite activities. After all, I make lists for everything, and I sometimes put the most simple of tasks–non-listworthy ones, for sure–just so I can cross them off when I complete them. The act of striking through something or checking a box makes me insanely happy. If I can combine list-making and planning for a trip? WOW, Mama like. And the results are usually pretty good. I planned my…
