I’ve jumped on the bandwagon, participating in a meme that’s making its way around the blogs, and it’s all about accents!
Though I don’t think I have any accent at all, relative to the sweet sounds of the voice belonging to my favorite Jersey-girl and sis-tuh from ano-thuh mo-thuh
Snooks Liz, or the citified inflections coming from my New Yawker friend Patty, or the adorable vocality of one of my oldest friends, Dawn, who hails from the northern tip of West Virginia, I decided to go ahead and record this just for giggles. And you just might do that (giggle), a lot. You’re welcome.
I was joking when I said in my video that people were doing this so that others could make fun of their accent, OF COURSE. I really think it’s a fascinating experiment, and way better than some of the other memes that are going around. Seriously.
That said, I’m not above a little teasing. Especially because I don’t have an accent.
If you want to follow along or do the Accent Vlog yourself, here are the words/questions:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
Don’t forget, if you plan to do this on your blog, leave a comment so everyone knows to come and check you out!
Have fun, kids!

Oh…my…Gawd…yes, you have an accent! I really think you and Busy Mom were being very careful in your pronunciations and I may have to record you guys on the sly during BlogH…um…never mind!
You do have a slight accent, soften no doubt by your years in the south. I am going to give this a go, but if it turns out horrible, my vlog won't see the light of day.
Holy cow! No accent but man I have missed you!
And it's totally SODA!
I may actually have to do my first Vlog…maybe…
I lived in the Ft. Worth area for a few years, too. How could we have missed that about each other.
It's funny – I've never had a word for sun and rain at the same time until I saw other people do this – apparently it's a "sunshower"? I call it "rainbow weather".
You don't really sound midwestern though… Not like people who have lived in the midwest all their lives do!
I'll be sure to save my coo-pons for a Coke for you.
So I was just thinking that I didn't really have an accent (unless I'm mad or drunk) due to all my years of theatre training. Then I started reading the words and said "spittin' image."
You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can't take the Texas out of the girl.
a group of people is y'all. that's how you address a group of people. unless you wanna mix it up a bit and go w/ all y'all.
You are so precious. I love your accent and your voice 🙂 🙂 Mine is uploading to YOUTUBE right now. I cannot believe that I am doing this. EEEEEK!
My father always said that news reporters were trained in the midwest "accent" and growing up in Chicago that seemed so true. Of course when I moved to FL people spent years teasing/mimicking the way I spoke.
A great question for a Chicagoan would be "what do you call the sitting room in the front of the house?" To my family it was a living room, but I know many people who called it the front-room all bunched together so it sounded like frontchroom.
Love it love it love it! Nope, no accent. Ok actually you do. And I SO need to do this one. Soon. Just not when I'm in my pjs 😉
It's nice to attach a face AND a voice to your name and avatar. Yes, I'll probably do this tomorrow.
🙂 I was lol when you said, "Hey Guys! Woo!"
And, yes, it IS CRAY on. The boy had that as a spelling work in 3rd grade and one of the questions was to list all of the words with a long A. Since his teacher said, "Cran" she didn't 'get it'.
LOVE the vlog! And thanks for the linky love!
I did this one too and agree with you 100% about sherbert! I even spell it with an r!
I don't think you have an accent but I am fascinated by how you say Crayon and coupon! Glad you played along! 🙂
Well *I* don't hear an accent, but you do say a few words wrong. Like coupon. Also? Sneakers sounds like shoes that someone cleans their house in. Besides that, you're perfect.
I'm totally starring this in my google reader so I can remember to go back to it when I get home from work!!
