I Downloaded My Twitter Archives And Look What I Found!

I was asked twice yesterday–by my sistuh-from-anuthuh-mutha Liz and MY Momo–if I had downloaded my Twitter archive yet.

I had no idea I could do that, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to. Much like some of my “work” here on Suburban Scrawl, many of my tweets have been silly throwaways that I probably shouldn’t have put out there, taking up valuable internet real estate. Also, I shuddered to think of how idiotic my very first tweet was.

Still, the fact that my two best friends had done it and seemed relatively unscathed made me want to join in, said the forty-four-year-old wife and mom of two who has spent years talking to her sons about peer pressure but hey, downloading Twitter archives is certainly not immoral, illegal, or dangerous SO WHY NOT.

When I was talking to Liz about it, I learned that her first tweet was posted on Momo’s birthday, back in 2007. “How funny,” I thought.

I went through the easy steps to download my own Twitter archives late in the day, and remember that whole thing two paragraphs ago about how I shuddered to think of how idiotic my first tweet was? Yeah, that.

My first tweet

And then I looked closer (ahem, my eyesight) to check out the date. June 4, 2008.

My first tweet was ALSO posted on Momo’s birthday, one year after Liz’s first tweet. Coincidence that I was connected to my two besties from Tweet One? I THINK NOT. I spent the rest of the evening in a mind-blown state over it (I’m weird like that, shut up).

While you decide whether I have lost my mind, why not download your own Twitter archives? Momo’s got the instructions for you right here. Let me know if your best friends were predetermined by your very first tweet. Twitter might be onto something here.
