This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Chevrolet’s sponsorship of the Listen to Your Mother Show, but opinions are my own.
Two weeks ago, LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER national sponsor Chevrolet helped Tracey and me #FindNewRoads as we drove up to America’s Dairyland to take in the Milwaukee show in a Volt. (Such a cool car, by the way!) We had an awesome time and you can read about that HERE.
This past week, we were at it again: we had a date to hit the NW Indiana show in Valparaiso last Thursday, and then yesterday (Mother’s Day) I drove back to Wisconsin, sans Tracey, to take in the Mother of All The Shows in Madison, where LTYM began.
Our chariot was in many ways the polar opposite of the Volt. We were loaned a Chevrolet Tahoe, which is a massive vehicle and could probably fit a Volt INSIDE, if all the seats were removed. Maybe.
I last drove a Tahoe in 2012 for review purposes (read here if you want!) so the size of it wasn’t entirely foreign to me. It was fun to drive—if you want to feel like a Boss on the road, drive a Tahoe—and super great for a road trip!
On Thursday our friend—also LTYM Chicago 2013 cast member and half of our photographer team from this year’s show—Elizabeth drove over to my house and we went to pick Tracey up at her house, since she was on the way to Valpo.
We immediately turned up the music and Tracey sent a tweet about my mad music skillz again. (Road trip standard behavior.)
@justanothermom: “Currently listening to @melisalw give insanely detailed info about the history of Duran Duran. Fascinating! #findnewroads #ltym #ad”
I’m not sure if that was sarcastic or not, but YES, I KNOW A LOT ABOUT DURAN DURAN.
I learned that Tracey didn’t watch MTV until the early 90’s, which means she never watched it when it was really MTV, videos all the time. That explains a lot about the wide gap in our music habits. Ahem.
Anyway, I blew her and Elizabeth away by rapping along with Debbie Harry on Blondie’s “Rapture”, and we weren’t even fifteen minutes away from Tracey’s house at that point.
By the way, I was not the only one showing off some mad skillz.
@justanothermom: “I think watching @bethrago dance to Hip Hop Hooray in the @Chevylife Tahoe may just be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. @ltymshow #ad”
It was a fun, fun trip (comfy, too!) and when we arrived, we met up with the fourth member of our quartet, Brandi, who was the other half of our photographer team for this year’s Chicago show. This picture was not staged, and it tells you all you need to know about Brandi’s personality. This IS Brandi.
While Brandi was waiting for us in downtown Valpo, she found a really cool mural and took us there so we could take some fun pictures. She made this collage:
We enjoyed dinner and then found our seats in the audience where we watched Lovelyn (NWI producer/director) and cast share their wonderful stories. Well done, NWI!
Yesterday Tracey had some Mother’s Day activities planned with her family, so I hit the road with Meggan (LTYM Chicago 2014 cast member) and my nineteen-year-old son J.
Meggan surprised me by creating and bringing Flat Tracey. I laughed so hard. I mean, wouldn’t you?
Since Real Tracey wasn’t going to be riding shotgun as the designated tweeter, I took it upon myself to preschedule some tweets for the trip:
@melisalw: “I can’t drive AND tweet, so I prescheduled some tweets for your enjoyment. @chevylife @LTYMshow #ad #FindNewRoads #LTYM #SafetyFirst”
@melisalw: “Choosing between Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” OR Tone Loc’s “Funky Cold Medina”. Maybe. #PrescheduledTweet @chevylife #ad #FindNewRoads #LTYM”
@melisalw: “Corn fields for days. I bet we could fit a ton of corn in this @chevylife #Tahoe. It’s HUGE. #PrescheduledTweet #ad #FindNewRoads #LTYM”
@melisalw: “Hopefully we’re nearly in Rockford! If not, I’ll be using @OnStar soon. @LTYMshow @chevylife #PrescheduledTweet #ad #FindNewRoads #LTYM”
@melisalw: “Currently providing fun facts about the song that’s playing. Just a guess. @chevylife @LTYMshow #PrescheduledTweet #ad #FindNewRoads #LTYM”
@melisalw: “I bet I’m hungry right now. @chevylife @LTYMshow #PrescheduledTweet #ad #FindNewRoads #LTYM”
Finally we arrived!
Flat Tracey was pretty excited, too.
We sat with Milwaukee co-producer Alexandra. Seeing my LTYM sisters is one of the best parts of traveling to another show!
I have to say, seeing Ann Imig on her own turf, emceeing (and reading in) the show for her pumped-up hometown crowd, was something I wish every local director and producer could see. It was an honor to be there for her fifth annual show, and the pride that her audience felt when she announced that a LTYM anthology will be published by Amy Einhorn books in 2015 was palpable. SO PROUD of their Sconnie girl!
The show was fantastic, and before we knew it, it was time to head home.
The Tahoe was picked up this morning (I hate when that happens!) and with that, the 2014 season of LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER has drawn to a close. Thank you SO much to Chevrolet for making our road trips possible, but more than that, thank you for believing that LTYM is a worthy partner. It was a huge honor to Find New Roads with you this season.

Well LTYM NYC is a little envious that you got that sweet Tahoe! But I would have been nervous maneuvering it through the Lincoln Tunnel, so it’s all good. So glad that your Chevy trip looks like it was as fun as ours was! thanks Chevy!
