So, @thepioneerwoman Came To My Local Book Store Last Night…

I totally forgot that she was going to be signing books in my quaint little downtown book shop, due to the fact that I’m preparing for, ahem, my own book’s release next week. After I was reminded about her appearance by a dear, gifted friend, and considering the fact that I was mere minutes from being on my way to another store in my quaint little downtown, I made the snap decision to go, buy a couple of Ree’s books, and get them signed. Let me just say that going to a Pioneer Woman signing is a GREAT idea, but a better idea would be to plan to attend ahead…

Meet The Museum of Science and Industry’s Roommate, Kate McGroarty!

When I was a kid, one of my favorite books was “From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler”, by E. L. Konigsburg. The story detailed the adventures of Claudia Kincaid and her younger brother Jamie as they ran away from home and moved into the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. They spent their days tagging along with school groups exploring the museum’s exhibits, and spent their evenings bathing in fountains (grabbing coins from the bottom to buy food from the vending machines) and sleeping in the beds of kings and queens from another time. Though I wasn’t the kind of kid who wanted to run…

Sending Your Kid To College Is Exactly Like Being Pregnant, But Different.

I never thought I would experience pregnancy more than twice, but I was wrong. No, no, I’m not really pregnant again (bite your tongue!). I am, however, exhibiting many of the same symptoms. When we found out I was pregnant the first time, the wheels started turning immediately. We started wondering about so many things: Were we ready for this change? Were we up for the challenge of raising another human being?Could we actually afford this? Of course, those were only some of the questions. And it was a little late to be asking those questions, anyway. We put lots of time into figuring out our name choices. We did research…

BlogHer Recap 1: What I Learned

I’ve decided to split my BlogHer recap into a couple of parts because it was such a huge experience. This was my second year attending BlogHer, and it was spectacular. I had great fun that I will remember forever with friends both old and new, and I loved experiencing some of the excitement Manhattan had to offer outside of the hotel. I only attended two sessions (oops) but have no regrets about that whatsoever. I achieved my goal of connecting with some great brands that I really believe in. I interviewed Courtney Hansen, the spokesperson for AutoTrader.com, and I also spoke with Dr. Stuart Seale, author of The Full Plate…

Going to #Blogher10? Meet Some of My Friends!

Though I know that many people do a pre-conference post which is meant to introduce themselves to readers ahead of IRL meetings, I figured that, well, you people know me already. I thought my time would be better spent (and I would keep myself more highly entertained) if I introduce you to just four of my good friends who I plan to spend some great quality time with in Manhattan, at BlogHer. That way, if you happen to catch a glimpse of them at the Hilton or elsewhere, you can feel comfortable running up to them and tackling them to the ground, just like I intend to do! In no…
