• My Sister Has Mad Skillz,  Proud Moments,  Shameless Promotion

    Just a Reminder…

It’s been a while since I have done a shameless self promotion post on this, so I guess today is as good a day as any to use this space for just that reason. Some of you newer readers may have absolutely no idea that I actually have a book out there. It’s called Remembering Ruby: For Families Living Beyond the Loss of a Pet. Although the target age range is 4-9 (ish), it’s really a book meant for families to share together. I can also say that many adults have told me that they read it and found the story to be very helpful. The book has two parts.…

My Date With Drew (and Miss Pettigrew, and Miss Congeniality, and Jamal Malik, and Kristin Chenoweth, and Bridget Jones, and Kenny Shopsin)

One of the many really fantastic things about my sister is her ability to enjoy a vast amount of different genres when it comes to music, as well as movies. She has introduced me (and the family) to many audio and visual experiences we never would have discovered on our own. I was looking forward to watching a bunch of movies on this Tennessee trip, especially since Mom isn’t getting around much yet. We haven’t been able to do anything BESIDES watching tv and movies really, besides cooking meals and cleaning up after ourselves. So far, the movies I’ve seen in their entirety include: Miss Pettigrew Lives For a DayMiss…

I Promise, This Post Contains No Photos of My Dog.

Well, it’s November 1 and you know what that means… Lots of things. But one thing I’m thinking of in particular needs to be announced this evening: I’m doing NaBloPoMo (otherwise known around here as NaBloPoMoFo). What is that? For me, it’s nothing too different from what I normally do, to be honest. It means that I am committed to posting each and every day during the month of November. I post nearly every day anyway, but as Tara mentioned in her post about it today, it’s one thing when you post nearly every day anyway, and quite another when you “have” to post. But I’m in a good groove,…

  • My Sister Has Mad Skillz,  Too Funny To Ignore,  UGH.

Clean AND Ancient. Big AND Rich. Mortified AND Humiliated.

My sister Julesie is a first-class photographer. Though her ability shines through with any format and any subject, my favorite pictures are the ones she’s taken of children (and not just mine!). I think it’s safe to say that my kids and the kids of her friends (to whom she is an honorary aunt!) are some of her favorite subjects. Years ago, there was a period during which she did children’s portraits as an actual business. One day, she had to drop off some proofs at the home of someone I knew through the health club (I worked in the nursery at the time), and the boys (who were about…

  • Food,  My Sister Has Mad Skillz

    Hi Ho Cherry Hey-Ohhhhh!

My sister Julesie came over last night, and boy did we have food and drink plans. We like to try new recipes when we get together, and this instance was no different. We had our normal phone conference, during which we talked about a few options and made our decision (I’ll tell you about that in a moment). Then she said to me, “How do you feel about Bing Cherry Mojitos?” Of course I replied, “I feel GREAT about them!” Then she started sending out tweets to make everyone jealous, like this one, which you definitely shouldn’t click on if you have problems with the F-word. Of course, like many…

    It Only Took Twenty-Eight Years…

On Friday, I did myself proud. As many of you know, I write feature articles for a nail salon industry magazine. Every July, my fabulous editor asks her writers to propose ideas for the following year. Last year as a part of my 2009 article proposal, I came up with the idea of interviewing the host of one of my favorite business makeover shows in conjunction with an article about salon makeovers. (Click here to hear his glorious British accent and see what his personality, full of infectious excitement, is like. He’s awesome!) I let my editor know that I would do my best to locate his PR people and…

Help My Seestor Help Another Seestor

Please, please, please. Do me a favor. My sister is trying to help raise money for two sisters (and great friends!) of one of her BFFs (her college roommate Emily). They both have MS. I could type up a big post about it but frankly, my sister’s post explains it beautifully and I would just really appreciate it if you would go to her blog and check it out. Long story short: **Go to my sister’s blog. **Read about Nancy and Amy. **Donate to “SeestorAmy”‘s MS Walk Team by clicking on the handy dandy link (or this one). **Donate $10: my own Seestor will send you one of her scrumptiously…

    Go Big or Go Home

I don’t do anything small. It’s a personality trait, I guess. My sister’s got it bad, too. Our mom started it, I guess. And, I would imagine, our grandmother was just as “bad”. Individually we are pretty creative, but add one or two more of us and the combination is lethal. Give us a simple task and our brains start to spin with ideas on how to make it better, stronger, faster, more impressive, and shortly after that, we RUN with it. Remember our “Amazing Race” premiere party? That’s just one example. I have been called “Martha” more than once (way more) in my life. I don’t know how to…
