• My Kids Have Mad Skillz

It’s Not ALWAYS About Me(me), But Sometimes? It Is.

I’m a sucker for a good meme, as long as I can change the rules if I want to in order to make things easier for me, quicker for me, and/or entertaining for me. Oh, and you. Sure. Entertaining for YOU, too. Weaselmomma tagged me almost two weeks ago for a photo meme, and last night the time was finally right for me to figure out how I could manipulate the system to create a spectacular post for this, the final day of November and not-so-coincidentally, the FINAL day of NaBloPoMo 2009. (Did you notice I’ve posted daily for 30 days? You better had noticed!) The meme “rules”? The person…

    A (Meeko) Fabulous Question

My buddy Meeko Fabulous asked a great question in a comment earlier this week, and I thought a post about my answer would be a great Public Service Announcement right now, at the beginning of the holiday season. His question? Would a Jewish person get offended if they were given a Christmas card? I unintentionally committed that faux pas last year and got an earful . . . Your thoughts? I did a post that touched on this last year, but I’m too lazy to link it. First of all, I have to put the disclaimer out there that my answer is just that: Mine. My opinion may not be…

    Another Sign of the Times

Once again, Hallmark has made an ad that, I imagine, resonates with masses of folks. Their ad people are right on. (And damn them for making me cry again…and again…and again.) P.S. Check out this post by Stacey at 4evermom for still another sign of the times.

    Thankful.

To commemorate today’s Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to do a short post about some of the little things I’m thankful for. I mean, of course I am terribly thankful for my family and friends, and for having good health, a roof over my head, food to eat, and clothing to wear. VERY thankful for all of that. And not that being thankful for all of that is “boring”, but I wanted to use my fine motor skills (figuratively) to reach a little further today. Here are a few other things–much less important in the grand scheme but important just the same–that I am thankful for: 1. My washing machine, because…

  • My Kids Have Mad Skillz,  Reflections on Parenting

The Focus Is On Family, As Usual.

Focusing on family this holiday season won’t be any different from the norm around here; we usually spend the eight days of Hanukkah doing lots of family activities: board games (Risk, Life, etc.), movies, entertaining, and all that kind of stuff. We don’t focus on the gifts–and in fact, for the last many years, it’s been like pulling teeth for the grandparents to get my kids to make wish lists because they hate doing that–but still, we usually have a loose budget for the holidays. Not this year. Although we are totally fine (really), our belts are tightened this year when it comes to extras, and we join so many…

    A (Terrible) Cleaning Product Poem

When you’re feeling extra sloppity,Or you spill something that’s totally gloppity,Or your stuff goes flippity floppityAnd you don’t feel like pulling out the big ole’ moppity Don’t be a total dippity;Tell yourself to get a grippity.Stop those tears from being all drippityAnd grab yourself the wipes that are wippity*. *I was not compensated in any way, shape, or form by the makers of Wippity Wipes for writing this piece of garbage. Just sayin’.

  • Family Fun,  Too Funny To Ignore

Sing Like No One Is Listening*

I mentioned recently that my sister Julesie gave me Season 1 of “The Muppet Show” for my birthday. One of the best sketches from the DVD set is one that most of us (all except for Jim of course, who, because of a childhood full of “wasteful” activities that kept him away from the television**–like playing outside and reading–does not have a brain that is a magnet for catch phrases, funny lines, or addictive tunes like the rest of us) have had stuck in our heads for two weeks now: For about a week after we five sat in my family room on the night of my birthday celebration and…
